Advertisement Assignment

Create an advertisement using at least one of the methods described in the “
Techniques of Persuasion” handout.  Your ad can be for a product you make up or an existing product (e.g. for “Super Cola” or “Coca Cola”); however, you cannot use any parts of an existing ad campaign (e.g. images, slogans, etc.).  Your ad should be aimed at a specific group (e.g older adults, women, kids, etc.).  Your ad can be for print media, radio, or television.  You will present your ad to the class and explain which technique(s) you used and the target audience.

Due: 2/24
A – The ad clearly employs two or more techniques that are appropriate for the target audience.  The student explains why the particular techniques were chosen and how they are meant to sell the product.

B – The ad clearly employs one technique that is appropriate for the target audience.  The student explains why the particular technique was chosen and how it is meant to sell the product, but the explanation is not entirely convincing.

C – The technique(s) used in the ad is not clear or is not appropriate for the target audience.  The student attempts to explain why the particular technique was chosen and how it is meant to sell the product.

D – The technique(s) used in the ad is not clear or is not appropriate for the target audience.  The student does not explain why the particular technique was chosen and how it is meant to sell the product.

F – The student does not use any of the techniques in the ad.
